It’s not easy to try and sum yourself up in just a few words, but here goes:
I think I developed my drive for success at an early age. I grew-up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania where I had to work three jobs just to pay for college expenses.
After receiving a full ROTC scholarship to Duke University, I became a pre-med student, with an emphasis on biology. I swam as a varsity athlete throughout my undergraduate career and graduated in 1999 with honors as a student-athlete and a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
I then went on to the University of California-San Francisco School of Medicine and began a surgical internship at the naval hospital of San Diego. My move westward started my passion for cycling, combined with a love of swimming and marathon running it gave me a real edge when I started competing in triathlons in 2000.
One of my biggest supporters was my Uncle Tom, who passed away from pancreatic cancer just one month after his diagnosis. In remembrance of him, I established a fund to help raise money for pancreatic research.
I also joined Project Active, a non-profit initiative dedicated to diffusing world tensions through sporting and athletic equipment.
As many of you will know I also got to star in ABC’s hit show “The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman.” Since then I’ve become increasingly involved with domestic and global humanitarian projects. In order to help the families of America’s fallen heroes, I started ‘Got-Your-Back’, and have been lucky enough to oversee the project throughout all of its success.
