I know Valentine’s Day is less than a week away, but for those of you still searching for that special someone to give your heart to, I have a novel idea: Make the Oceans your Valentine.
This may seem abstract, but there’s actually a very direct way to whisper sweet nothings to the oceans. Here’s how…
1) Eat sustainably. Don’t play coy with sustainable menu options like wild Alaskan salmon, diver scallops and tilapia (or even crawfish for all you Saints fans!). However, play hard to get when you see less ocean friendly choices like farmed salmon (water pollution and antibiotics use), bluefin tuna (overfished), and orange roughy (habitat damage and bycatch). Review all your options with a seafood guide.
2) Oil Treatment. Oils derived from aloe and jojoba rejuvenate and revitalize, but oil mined from the depths of the oceans is nothing but a big turn off. It’s bad for the body (humans, animals and plants alike), impossible to clean up and contributes to climate change.
3) Get Intimate – Stop all the flirting and get up close and personal with many of the marvelous creatures that live in the world’s oceans. Check it out here.
