In 2009, Nautica worked with charity: water and sponsored a well in the small, rural village of Mai Tselot, Ethiopia. Mai Tselot is about 10 kilometers south of the city Adi Gidey, in northern Ethiopia. Before this hand dug well was installed, the villagers walked 45 minutes to a polluted, low-running stream. The 420 residents of Mai Tselot now have clean water for the first time in their lives. This well will serve the community of Mai Tselot for years to come.
Bringing clean water to a community takes between 12-18 months to complete. During this time, the project is physically constructed with local workers; the community receives hygiene and sanitation training and learns how to maintain their new water source. When the process is complete, charity : water’s local field partners hand over the water project to the community. Charity: water tracks all water projects with photographs and GPS coordinates.
