If you are wondering how to pull off the dapper look of a modern gentleman, The Fashion Crew is here to tell you how! A proper suit does not look complete without a pocket square perfectly folded in place. For years men have abandoned the idea of the small accessory, only reserved for granddads and counts, but now it is back, simple and stylish.
Whether worn to differentiate your suit from day-to-night or to pull off the ultra-cool Mad Men look, pocket squares, are all the rage. Found in cotton, linen or silk and available in solid colors or patterns, there are plenty to choose from. One rule to go by is always coordinate, not match, the color of the pocket square with the tie.
While there are many different folds such as the Astaire, the Cooper, The Two Point, The Four Point; we know not to make this too complicated or one may abandon the idea all together. We recommend the straight or corner fold, for a modern effortless look. Pocket squares can be worn as easily with a suit as they can be worn with a blazer and jeans, as long as the jeans have a clean, more tailored look.
The Square Fold:
Standard size is a 12×12: Lay down the square flat, fold in half, then fold in half one more time, place in pocket and tuck as needed
The One Point or Corner Fold:
Lay down the square flat with one point up and one point down, fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner, fold the left corner to the right, and the repeat the right to the left, place in pocket and tuck as needed.
Fun Fact: As early as 500BC French and English Nobleman carried around perfumed pocket squares to cover their noses from the stench of the streets and the people.
