Dressing nautical is a popular trend, as well as a timeless fashion statement. We are here to give you some tips on how to pull off this classic look without looking overdone. Drawing inspiration from our sea-worthy ancestors and the coastal communities that inspire us, we look to stripes, color-blocking and heritage outerwear pieces, the look is evolved and modern. All you need to get started are stripes are some classic wardrobe pieces and some updated accessories.
For most ladies and men, the classic nautical look involves pairing a navy and white striped shirt with khaki pants and a navy blazer. For bottoms or tops, chose a dark shade of navy, almost black, instead of the usual French Navy, which is a lighter shade. This is not only fashion forward, but also flattering. Next step, find a great pair of jeans, make sure the wash is clean and pigmented and the fit flattering to your body type. Next, add a colorful accent piece. For ladies, try a splash of red or gold on accessories like a belt or a scarf. For men or women, try to layer on a blazer for a versatile look. For women, accessories can really make an outfit stand-out, gold bangles or a red scarf work perfectly on any Nautical look. As a rule of thumb, if you cannot decide put on both of your accessories and remove one. To avoid looking overdone, remember that moderation is important. Also stripes for some, are very unforgiving, in this case we suggest going with a thinner stripe verse a wide stripe. But you don’t need stripes to be Nautical; there are plenty of options with color blocking, sail stitching, and other Nautical design details that can achieve the same look. Pair a white tee with jeans and blazer and add a gold anchor necklace or bracelet. For guys, try on boat shoes or a D-ring belt to complete your look and you are all set, smooth sailing!
