The beaches of Malibu California are about to be some of the first beaches to receive a new lifeguard known as EMILY. EMILY is not your ordinary bathing suit wearing hunk or babe however, EMILY is the world’s first robotic lifeguard! The new Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyard device or cleverly named EMILY is a motorized buoy that uses a jet ski like propulsion system to deliver itself out to struggling swimmers at a speed of over 24 mph. This is twelve times faster than a typical human can swim! This incredible lifesaving device, invented by engineer and entrepreneur Tony Mulligan, is buoyant enough to hold five people above water and is easily controlled by a lifeguard on the beach via remote control. EMILY is planned to be released as early as this coming March on the shores of Malibu, just in time for next year’s Nautica Malibu Triathlon!
