The 11th Annual Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic presented by Bright House Networks returns to the Flagler Pier in Flagler Beach, FL on November 6-7, 2010. This annual weekend event celebrates the life of Flagler Beach’s local surf brethren, Tommy Tant, who passed away in 1998 from an aortic aneurysm. Combining high-performance surfing, art, music and food, the 2010 Tant Classic is more than a surfing competition – over the years, it has become an annual community event with a national reach.
This year the Tant Classic will make history by hosting the Red Bull Night Riders competition on Saturday, November 6th from 8-10pm. Cheer from the pier as six of the world’s best professional surfers push the limits of aerial surfing underneath high-powered flood lights. This event is the first of its kind in the Southeast and is free to the public.
The surf contest anticipates over 300 surfers to compete in four pro divisions and 11 amateur divisions and expects to draw thousands of spectators. Two-time event champion Aaron Cormican is confirmed to defend his title in the Men’s pro division presented by popular local restaurants High Tides at Snack Jack and High Jackers. Cobian Sandals has stepped up to present the inaugural Tommy Tant Junior Pro Division. And, the next generation of rippers who require adult assistance to surf will compete in the entertaining Tadpole division.
Daily surfing competition begins at 7:30am and out-of-the-water festivities include live art presented by Flexfit, a raffle, and a silent auction. The 3rd Annual Tommy Tant Food Festival and Concert presented by Blue at Topaz and Flagler Fish Company will happen at Veteran’s Park in downtown Flagler Beach from 5:30pm-7:30pm on Saturday evening before Red Bull Night Riders. Enjoy delicious gourmet food from over 10 popular restaurants and top it off with an intimate concert by world famous musician, Braddigan.
Proceeds from the event fund the Tommy Tant Memorial Scholarship, awarded to local college students, as well as the Flagler Food Bank.
