He’s not exactly coming down your chimney, but there will be 1000’s of people dressed up as Santa this weekend in the annual SantaCon celebration. SantaCon is a fun event for adults where girls and guys dress up as Santa and gallivant around town. It’s a completely non-denominational and non-commercial gathering that takes place once a year for no reason at all other than to have fun!
The first SantaCon took place in 1994 in San Francisco and was sponsored by the San Francisco Cacophony Society. The original inspiration came from a Danish Political mob, the Suicide Club, which swarmed a Copenhagen Department store just before Christmas. Despite the political causes abroad, the current SantaCon has no political affiliation and is just for adults to dress up, have a good time, and even play Santa Pranks! For 16 years Santas around the world have joined the daylong event even handing out gifts to strangers. Become a part of the tradition this year and find a SantaCon near you. You can participate in 175 different locations in 23 countries!
Check out the official site at Santacon.com where they offer more information about Santacon, its locations, message boards, and even advice from Santa! Visit nycsantacon.com where Santa will be announcing his specific locations Friday evening. You can also follow Santacon on twitter at twitter.com/santacon.
