The Fashion Crew: Derby Dress Code

It is no secret that the Kentucky Derby certainly centers around style!  On this day, whether you are a gentleman or a lady, making a statement with your outfit means as much to the event as the winnings.  Proper Derby attire comes down to one polished festive look, but where you spend your time watching the race makes all the difference.  If heading to a corporate reserved seating area, the dresses, hats and heels are all out for race day!  For men, a cotton or seersucker suit, paired with a silk tie or bow tie is perfect for the occasion.  For women, look out for elegant dresses or separates, showing up in bright spring time colors.  Frivolous hats and heels, just comfortable enough to walk in, are necessary to impress.  If watching from the infield opting for a more practical look may make sense, but make sure it is still feminine and frilly.  For guys still wear a button down and slacks.  Not lucky enough to grace the grounds of Churchhill Downs?  That’s okay, watching at home or at a party with your nearest and dearest friends can be just as celebratory.  Dressing a little more casual is acceptable, but for the ladies make sure you still wear a hat.  No Kentucky Derby viewing is complete without it!
