When it comes to surf competitions, it’s not always all about the West Coast. East Coasters certainly deserve some recognition – and at the 49th annual East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) in Virginia, that’s exactly what they’re going to get. The ECSC is North America’s oldest running surf competition, and from today until August 28th, more than 100 of the world’s top professional surfers and close to 300 amateurs will be shredding the waves at Virginia Beach competing for combined cash prizes totaling $115,000. If spectators don’t feel like sitting in the sun all day, there are plenty of free events and other competitions going on to check out including skim boarding, volleyball, and a swimsuit competition. Live bands will also be performing on an oceanfront stage throughout the weekend. Sounds like a recipe for one gnarly weekend!
