As you know, I am always trying to find new ways to keep moving and keep my fitness on track. I am a huge advocate of finding activities you have fun doing so you don’t think of it as exercise, but fun! Plus this way you won’t get bored and quit. Burning calories is burning calories no matter which way you look at it.
I remember the Christmas I celebrated with my family in Mexico when I was still part of season five, Biggest Loser back in 2007. At the time I was extremely focused and needed to make sure I was regimented so that I could reach my goal of showing up at the Finale with highest percentage of weight loss. In Mexico, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to workout properly and that my diet would seriously suffer. To make me feel more comfortable with the trip, my family divided up the days and each day someone made a healthy meal that I could share in. I also needed to burn 3,750 calories each day to meet my weight loss goal. Luckily, my stepmom is an avid hiker, my sister is a yoga instructor, and both my brothers played college football. It was that trip to Mexico that showed me that moving and having fun trying new activities can be the best exercise plan.
One evening I had been jumping rope with my brother on our patio and we decided to have a shake off. Yep, I shimmied my last 75 calories off and then some! After that I was hooked. As the weight continued to come off, I started to have a new found confidence and I started taking Zumba classes. A few months later I had a secret desire to take a pole dancing class.
In my new show ‘Live Big with Ali Vincent’ I take different people and cheerlead them through creating a new relationship with how they feel about themselves and their body. One of my guests wanted to lose some weight so that she could feel sexier and improve her relationship with her husband. One of my producers thought this would be a perfect opportunity to arrange for a pole dancing class. This was the perfect way to BE sexy while working towards her fitness goals. Oh my, talk about a hard workout, but it’s so FUN!
The first step is not the one around the pole but to get out of your mind, so that you don’t over think the process. I’m so glad I tried the class and plan on doing a lot more of it; the strength that you need to have in order to complete the advance classes is definitely something I look forward to and I’m sure I’ll have many laughs on my way to it!
Go try something out of your comfort zone this week and tweet @Nautica and tell us how it goes.
Until next week,
xo ali
