In honor of our Men’s Spring 2017 Fashion Presentation’s Modern French Riviera theme we’re sharing some fun facts about this Mediterranean playground!
American icon and Oscar-winning actress, Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. The original “Royal Wedding” was aired on live television and was viewed by over 30 million people!
To this day the French Riviera is frequented by royalty, actors, models and celebrities. In 1923, Coco Chanel accidentally got a sunburn while vacationing along the coast and instantly popularized tans in fashion. Once desired fair skin was immediately a thing of the past.
The Riviera was a playground for the rich and famous but it was also a retreat for artists such as, Picasso, Matisse and Monet in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Here is a photograph of Pablo Picasso at his home in Cannes
More than 13 major events/festivals take place along this Mediterranean coastline, including, Cannes Film Festival. The first Cannes Film Festival in 1946 marked the return of French cinema to world screens.
